Established in 1999, Kopp String Instruments began as a repair shop based in Republic, OH. The shop was busy with maintaining the instruments of Mid-West guitarists from the Detroit, Toledo, and Cleveland areas.

The first model guitar produced was a 17” Betty Swing Archtop Jazz Guitar in the year 2000. Shortly after that first Betty Swing came the development of the 419 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar.

Production of the 419 grew steadily with the help of the endorsement of Australian guitarist, Mick Turner of “The Dirty Three” fame.

In 2005, the workshop was moved to its current location on Catawba Island. At this shop is where the Betty Swing design was further refined. This caught the eye and ear of Oberlin College Professor and Kopp String Instruments endorser, Robert Ferrazza.

Within the same year, came the development of the Tedrow and Thinline Series. From a meager 4 to 6 instruments per year, the production has grown to over 15-20 instruments annually. Working in batches of four instruments at a time, all guitars are still hand carved by Denny Kopp.

Kopp guitars may be ordered directly from the manufacturer.
